It’s been quite a busy month so far with a focus on teaching my new workshop – Fragments of Nature – both online and in a live workshop.
We are about half-way through the online class, and have so far learned how to mix dyes to recreate nature colors. It all begins with hand-dyed color wheels.
Learning techniques for dyeing fabric to create complex nature colors.
Learning how to dye threads and other types of fibers.
Nothing is safe in the hands of a hand-dyer.
Meanwhile, during my live workshop last week at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, we got a chance to have some real-time fun and get a little messy at the same time. I wish I had taken more photos at the live workshop, but we were having so much fun it quickly became an afterthought. I did however manage to capture a few photos although they don’t truly capture the fun and adventure we had over the two days as we simply enjoyed each other’s company and learned new things together. I’d like to thank the ladies who joined me for this workshop – it was a wonderful experience.
Nature colors come in all shades.
Some experimental assemblage hand-dyeing techniques using real objects of nature.
Interesting results.
We even got to do some nature-inspired hand stitching using sticks and leaves and our beautiful fabrics.
Whew! It’s been a few busy few weeks. I’m looking forward to getting things back to normal – or at least as normal as they get around here.
