Exploring image transfer for mixed media

I’ve just started a brand new project … an Image Transfer Art Journal – and I’ve already finished the first page which is a double page and isn’t it just beeeauutiful?

I first painted and textured some mixed media paper sheets. This one has crumpled tissue paper texture …

.. and this one has cheesecloth texture.

Once the backgrounds were dry, I printed this design directly onto the tissue paper texture. It printed out perfectly and I love the way it turned out.

This image was a little more challenging. This is an inkjet print onto tissue paper. The tissue paper print was then glued to the background using soft gel medium. The tissue is very fragile so you only get one shot at this because if the tissue paper doesn’t go down properly the first time, you have to remove it and do it again and that isn’t easy. However what you end up with is a semi-transparent image which blends with the background color and texture. It looks very magical.

Once I’ve got all my pages made, I’ll make a cover and turn it all into a handmade book. I’m really excited to finally have a sample book that is so creative and inspiring. Plus it’s lots of fun discovering new ways of using all these different image transfer techniques.
