It can be difficult to see the width measurements that are engraved on the sewing plate on your sewing machine, so to make it easier to sew a straight seam, simply align a piece of masking tape along the appropriate markings. This can be used to sew any width seam such as 1/4″, 1/2″ or 5/8″. When sewing, don’t look at the needle, look at the end of the tape to make sure the edge of the fabric aligns with the edge of the tape.
