Here’s some more examples of my fabric marbling experiments from the other day, this time using organza fabric. If you like to make quilt and textile art, sheer fabric is useful to use an overlay on top of other types of fabrics in order to create illusions and change the color and design of the fabric underneath.
There are no special requirements for marbling on sheer fabric and it’s done the same as marbling on any other type of fabric.
This piece was made using Golden fluid acrylic paint mixed with some GAC 900 textile medium which turns acrylic paint into fabric paint. Using acrylic paint on fabric can sometimes turn the fabric stiff and scratchy, but using fabric paint helps to keep the soft hand of fabric. Against a background of white, the pattern is distinctive but it looks pretty ordinary.
But overlaid onto a piece of hand-dyed fabric, it takes on a whole new dimension.
This piece was made using Jacquard Dye-na-flow paint.
Overlaid onto a piece of marbled fabric from the other day, most of the colors blended into the background and made a very subtle design.
This piece was made using a combination of black India ink and Golden fluid acrylic paint.
Against a hand-dyed fabric background it looks totally different.
