I make time every day to include creativity as part of my busy life, even if it’s only for a few minutes at a time. However I never feel more creative than when I’m sharing my creative processes, or teaching others to use their creative gifts.
These last few weeks have been such a delight teaching one of my all-time favorite creative processes which is hand-dying – assemblage-style. And I’m so excited to see the beautiful fabrics and fibers that are being hand-dyed by the students in this class. Here’s some of the highlights so far.
Color Wheels
Color theory and color wheels are the foundation of hand-dyeing. Once you know the theory, a world of color is at your finger-tips.

Value Gradations
Manipulating color to create tints produces beautiful gradations.

Color Runs
Color runs are one of my personal favorite ways to create unique color palettes.

Threads & Fibers
Hand-dyeing your own threads and fibers is fun and easy.

Assemblage Hand-Dyeing
So now that the basics have been covered, this week the fun really begins as we learn how to use all that knowledge to create beautiful one-of-a-kind hand-dyed fabric and fiber collections – assemblage-style. It really does look like quite a mess during the process.

But after it’s all over, the magic is revealed.
