How to Cut Burlap Straight
Burlap has a large weave and this makes it easy to cut it perfectly straight. Measure where you want to make the cut, then pinch the thread on the side of the fabric. Gently pull the thread until the fabric starts to bunch up. The threads are strong so it’s easy to pull them.
Adjust the bunching along the width of the fabric until the thread pulls loose. Now you can see exactly where to cut.
Using a pair of scissors, cut the fabric.
How to Stop Burlap from Fraying
Once burlap is cut, it will fray when handled.
To prevent burlap from fraying while you sew, simply spray the edges with some heavy spray starch and press with a hot, dry iron. The spray starch helps to seal the edges long enough for you to sew the fabric.
