I finally completed one of my Ancient Earth Mini-Journals that I started about a week ago. Because the pages are small, it went together very quickly.
I named this particular journal “Meditations from the Heart” and attached some small stitched collages to the pages.
I hadn’t intended to write a tutorial, but these small journals were quick to assemble and a lot of fun to make, so you might like to make your own. Here’s how I made them.
How to Make Your Own Ancient Earth Mini-Journals
You’ll first need some papers or cardstock to use for pages, and some fabric scraps for the wrap-around jacket. I made my journals using some of my hand-dyed fabrics, and Faded and Tattered Printable Journal Pages.
Print out the journal pages.
Trim away the edges of the paper, then cut the pages in half to measure 5″ x 7″.
Position two pages back to back, then sew them together close around the edges. I found that 2 or 3 double-sided pages worked best for these small journals.
Once all the pages are made, fold them in half and stack them on top of each other. Then measure and cut a few pieces of fabric to use for the wrap-around jacket.
I made simple jackets with raw edges. To close the wrap-around jacket, I attached a button and ribbon tie to one end. Once all the pieces are assembled, center the jacket on the outside and stitch all the pieces together down the center using a pamphlet stitch. If you don’t know how to sew a pamphlet stitch, you can find it explained here.
Instead of a journal cover, I hand-stitched a piece of silk organza to the outside. I think the effect works perfectly with this style of journal.
I hope you enjoy making your own Ancient Earth Mini-Journals!
