Print’n'Sew: Printable Designs and Kits

Printing on fabric just got FABULOUS … with my new “Print-n-Sew” range of CD Design Sets and Pre-printed Kits! Yes – something new and wonderful to print on fabric!

The “Print-n-Sew” range is something I’ve been working on for a while (in between writing books and building websites), and I’ve *finally* managed to get the first three designs put together.

Just like me, I know many of you have been inspired by the “One Word Vision Cards” that I send out each week with my newsletter. Some time back I redesigned the image for my card which is “Imagine”, printed it on fabric and made a notebook cover out of it. I use my notebook every day to keep track of things and to get all that stuff out of my head and onto paper where it won’t get lost or forgotten. And I just LOVE to be reminded of my word every time I look at my notebook – it’s worked magic for me already this year!

If you’re new to the “One Word” concept, you can read about the original inspiration here, and you can also find an update about my “One Word” Print-n-Sew Designs here.

As it happened, the inspiration for the “One Word” cards coincided with an idea I was tossing around for a “Print-n-Sew” range of printable designs so what better way to kick off this new fabric printing venture than to share with you some of the beautiful “One Word” designs.

The Print-n-Sew Design range can be found in my store at Linda Matthews Designs and I currently have three designs available either as CD Design Sets that you can print and sew yourself, or as pre-printed kits in two sizes that include almost everything you need to complete the project – all you need to add is a fat quarter and your favorite Moleskine notebook. And the special fabric that I’ve used for the pre-printed designs produces color that will knock your socks off – it’s brilliant! as you can clearly see from these images.

Journal Cover – Poppy

Using the same technique as I used on this journal cover, this is another of my digital art designs printed on fabric paper treated with digital grounds. I’ve treated the surface with a sealer which gives it a soft gloss finish and helps to protect the fabric paper. The results are a strong, flexible and water resistant surface, with lovely texture, and best of all sewable either by machine or hand.

I really like the colors and the design and I think this design will look great on an art bag.

Take Time to Smell The Roses

Taking a break from Art Bags, I whipped up this soft fabric journal cover using one of my print samples. This is a similar image to the one I used on this art bag, except it has a different background color and this image was printed directly onto fabric using durabrite inks. This was a fun project to put together and a great way to use up sample prints.

Rose Journal Cover

This weekend I played around some more with my favorite fabric paper and my very favorite digital grounds, and combined the two together to make a lovely journal cover.

I collaged together an image in Photoshop …

Added a few beads, decorative fibers and other embellishments; and it’s done!
