Attention all you creative Photoshopoholics – there’s a new book in town written JUST for you.

Every now and then I browse through the books at Amazon.com in the hopes of finding a book that’s more about learning how to use Photoshop Elements creatively as opposed to teaching the technicalities … and a week or so ago I saw one called Digital Expressions: Creating Digital Art with Adobe Photoshop Elements
by Susan Tuttle, which I quickly put on my birthday wish list.
Well to make a long story short, I was in Barnes & Noble the other day and found it there so of course I had to grab it up quickly to have a look see and I’m so glad I did.
Let me first begin by saying that this book doesn’t exactly teach you how to use Photoshop Elements so if you’re a beginner with little to no knowledge of Photoshop Elements you might become a little frustrated, however there is included in the book a section called “Essential Tools and Techniques” which details various steps used throughout the book, so by working through each chapter and referring back to this section, you should be able to figure it all out.
But otherwise you’ll find that this book is a FABULOUS exploration of techniques for creating digital art. The chapters are well laid out and in a logical sequence that will take you through techniques for manipulating images, painting and drawing, digital collages and montages, as well as incorporating traditional art into digital work. And of course there are LOTS of beautiful photos for inspiration. Even if you don’t think you’ll use all of the techniques presented in the book, you’ll have more than enough ideas to work with and explore.
The book also comes with a cd, but don’t get too excited about this, the cd doesn’t have very much on it at all and includes only a few photos, brushes and textures, although it’s enough to get you started if you’re a beginner. There is included with each chapter though, links to websites and resources where you can find photos, brushes and textures so this more than makes up for what’s not included on the cd.
This is one of those lovely books that you’ll want to hang onto and refer to again and again – wonderful inspiration! Don’t wait! Run out and grab a copy.
