Buddha Bag

The Buddha Bag is a "Creatively Recycled" shoulder purse made from scraps of fabric and inkjet print samples rescued from my scrap bin.

The front of the tote features an image of the buddha printed onto organza fabric and overlaid onto a piece of overdyed kimono silk fabric. The underlying kimono silk fabric has silver metallic threads running through it, so the image glitters and shines depending on which way you look at it. A small crystal is fixed to the buddhas third eye. The image is printed using durabrite inks which makes it water and fade resistant. Scraps of overdyed silk kimono fabric were used to finish the front of the bag, and a chinese coin was added for embellishment.

The back of the bag was rescued from an art quilt ufo, and is a piece of overdyed silk kimono fabric with a bamboo design stencilled onto it using paintstiks. Gold foil has also been added for additional surface design.

The inside of the bag is old gold colored silk dupioni, with two pockets made from contrasting pink silky fabric. The same fabric is used for the strap. The tote has been stabilized so it holds its shape and a magnetic snap keeps everything safe.

The tote body is approx 8" wide x 9.1/2" high and 1" wide, with overall length approx 28" from top of strap to bottom of tote.

This is a unique and one-of-a-kind art bag; lovely to look at and beautiful to hold.
